Outdoor Learning Room / Gardens
At Lilliput each room has a garden with outdoor equipment specifically for the particular age group. Each garden has a wooden playhouse which is used to store equipment over night and to play in during the day, a shaded area, climbing equipment and slides, a sand pit, a digging area, a hill or slope and a vegetable garden. Children are encouraged to choose and move freely from indoor to outdoor and visa versa.
In addition to our gardens we have an exceptional wildlife meadow is a very special place for your child’s learning with trees, hills and places to run and hide and play. We have developed our 20 ways to help nature to support your child’s learning about our world and environment.
Each year with children’s help we hatch poultry and currently have Chickens, ducks, geese and a guinea fowl. We also have Richard, our rabbit.
Our Sensory Garden, Musical Courtyard and Wildlife Meadow are shared by all rooms. There is direct access onto the Wheelock Rail Trail through the paddock.
Free flow movement from indoors to outdoors is encouraged by carers with staffing adjusted according to maintain ratios.
